| A warm welcome to our Website! Central United Church is located in the heart of historic
Unionville. It is one of some 4,000 congregations across Canada belonging to the United
Church of Canada, the largest Protestant denomination in Canada.
The United Church of Canada is the product of a merger in
1925 of Methodist, Congregational and Presbyterian denominations. Congregations from the
Evangelical United Brethren denomination joined in 1968. For this reason the United Church
has seen itself as both a "United" and a "uniting"
church. Central United Church was founded in 1840 as a Methodist congregation. The
sanctuary dates back to 1879. Extensive renovations were undertaken in 1986, when the
sanctuary was remodeled and the present office building was added. The United Church
of Canada represents a broad spectrum of theological thought. Central United Church has
always adhered to traditional Christian faith and moral principles. |
