Outreach

The aim of our Outreach Committee is to proclaim the good news in word and deed.

Our mandate is to help church members and adherents develop an awareness of existing conditions locally and throughout the world and to encourage the membership to contribute morally and financially towards those needs.

The task continues to require an interest and concern for the whole church and not just a function of one committee. We hope and pray to reach out with relevance to serve Christ in the world through love.

We are open to responding to special projects that members of our congregation bring forth to us, some of which we have supported financially in the past.  We encourage member suggestions and try to be responsive in whatever way we can (through Sunday announcements, focused Sunday services, special givings envelopes, special speakers, etc.)  Part of our budget is allocated each year as emergency/immediate funds available to allow for special causes brought forth from the congregation.

We encourage our church members to remember the Outreach projects as our church's commitment to those in need beyond our own walls.

Music

Central United brings the congregation together through music. Our music director Stuart Beaudoin brings the voices of Central to life through choirs, special concerts and throughout the year during worship in hymns and songs.

We have choirs for all ages; junior, intermediate and seniro and welcome all who wish to lend their voice.

Please join us on a Sunday or at one of our events to experience the power of music in worship.

Parish Nursing

The Parish Nursing Health Ministry is a faith centred health ministry based on the assumption that the church is a place of health and healing, and has a role in linking faith to health. “Health is a gift from God. In order to be good stewards of this gift of God, congregations need to empower people to take responsibility for their own health; to enable them to serve God by being of service to their neighbour.” Inherently “God is the source of healing, medical or otherwise.”(Quotes are from the InterChurch Health Ministries Handbook.)

The Parish Nurse Health Ministry consists of a Health Cabinet and Sandra Ackles as Central's Parish Nurse. The role of the Health Cabinet is to collaboratively promote, support, and plan with the Parish Nurse developing the church’s health and healing ministry. The role of the Parish Nurse is to;

  • be a health educator/facilitator/promoter,
  • provide information and referrals to community agencies and services,
  • facilitate volunteers and
  • also be a faith and health counsellor.

Together, the team focuses on a commitment to the positive and very real relationship between faith and health.

Health education to Central's congregation and community features a monthly health focus, following the Health Canada Calendar. The Team welcomes requests and suggestions from our congregation regarding health information.

UCW

The United Church Women at Central, or U.C.W., is for every woman belonging to United Church, including Central United Church. We hope to gather and unite all church women in faith, fellowship, and fun. Come and join us for devotions, fellowship and fun, special guest speakers, special events such as pot luck suppers and fund raising (rummage sales).

The U.C.W.  meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. for lunch in the Friendship room at Central United. The leader is Beverley Budarick

Brookfield

Our committee was named in honour of the late Mr. and Mrs. Brookfield, who visited all newcomers to the village to make them welcome.  Since its inception in 1986, our committee has tried to continue in the tradition and spirit of its important ministry, which includes:

  • Visiting the sick in hospital or at home visiting the senior members of our congregation and to provide any assistance to them they may request.
  • Keeping in touch with our Church family through sympathy, get well or celebration cards.
  • Welcoming new members joining the Church and providing refreshments and hosting a luncheon once a year for new members.
  • Hosting the seniors luncheon in the spring.
  • Maintaining the over 80 years of age roster and sending greeting cards each year.
  • Arranging for Sunday service greeters.

Men's Ministry

A new men’s ministry programme is launched at Central in 2009 for our men and men of the community. Men’s Fraternity provides an opportunity for men to gather for learning and fellowship as we journey together to become who God intends us to be. The 24 week programme begins in September and meets through March on Tuesday mornings from 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM at Central.

You can choose to drop in to the opening session before deciding to commit to the program. Or you can drop in to any of the weekly sessions. While there is continuity from week to week, each session is also self contained. Advanced registration before September 1, 2010 will help us plan for resources, refreshments and space. However you will be just as welcomed if you show up at the first session and register then.

A brochure and registration form is available at the Church. If you would like more information please contact Rev. Jim Clubine or Doug Stirling.

Weekly Devotion

On Paul’s Companions

September 5, 2010

Scripture reading:  Colossians 4:2-18

Sermon text:  Colossians 4:7-9

7 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me; he is a beloved brother, a faithful minister, and a fellow-servant* in the Lord. 8I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know how we are* and that he may encourage your hearts; 9he is coming with Onesimus, the faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They will tell you about everything here.

Most people value friendships.  In this message we reflect on Paul’s companions in the gospel and that friendships are not only good for achieving goals but that Christ has made Christian fellowship essential for salvation.
